Transformative tools for unboxing knowledge– Presented by Olga Mink, Baltan Laboratories, at the Creative Ring Sum-It, on October 23, at Designhuis in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Baltan initiates experimentation on the crossroads of art, design, science and technology, evoking inquisitive ideas by bridging disciplines. In the past 10 years, Baltan brought together (un)related fields to create a larger body of knowledge. During this presentation, we will show few examples of practical tools to open up knowledge and foster cross-disciplinary understanding and collaboration.

What drives you?
The known unknowns and the unknown knowns.

What are the three things you would take with you on a deserted island?
Wine, food and an imaginairy friend

What emerging technologies/trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?
Self driving cars and AI.

What kind of impact do you expect them to have?
Causing a systematic change into our lives and society. For better and for worse.

What are the barriers that might stand in the way?
The way we embrace and think about technological developments and implement them

What do you hope people to learn from your presentation?
That artists and other creatives can have a great role in developing new perspectives for todays society.

About Olga Mink
Olga Mink is director of Baltan Laboratories in Eindhoven, which initiates, mediates and shares innovative research and development at the intersection of art, design and technological culture. She holds a MFA from the Sandberg Institute. Previous work experience ranges from curating and consulting, education in media art.

In October 2018, during Dutch Design Week, Creative Ring organizes its first international Sum-It!

A one of a kind event, where creative communities find the tools to shape tomorrow’s urban narratives.

Sum-It! takes you beyond inspiration-by-example and provides you with actionable tools, ready to be implemented in your daily practice.

A must-attend for smart-city stakeholders & policy makers, digital innovators, community- and ecosystem builders, public libraries, grassroots initiatives.

The main event takes place on Tuesday 23 October, with a prelude on Monday 22 October and a business tour on Wednesday 24 October.

Sum-It! is a collaboration between Creative Ring, Stichting Cultuur Eindhoven and other relevant partners.
