Faster, cheaper, better: the advantages of using the Smart City StarterK!t – Presented by CeesJan Mol, Creative Ring

Faster, cheaper, better: the advantages of using the Smart City StarterK!t – Presented by CeesJan Mol, Creative Ring, at the Creative Ring Sum-It, on October 23, at Designhuis in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

Almost cities sooner or later embark on a mission to become a Smart City. Eindhoven was one of the cities that was connected to the Internet early on, as Philips worked with Cisco to build one of the first technological corporate Internet infrastructures. Based on that headstart, Eindhoven has now converted its five years development in Living Lab Stratumseind into robust software.

Do you want to avoid investing years of effort and funding in yet another solution? Do you want to move ahead faster re-using tools already developed? Do you want to speed up the transition to Smart City by collaborating with other smart cities? Use the Smart City StarterK!t to launch your efforts and you will become a Smart City faster, focusing more of your investments on applications that will really help your citizens.

Interview
What drives you?
The will to innovate

What are the three things you would take with you on a deserted island?
A time machine, a transporter (like the one on board the USS Enterprise) and a djinni

What emerging technologies/trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?
Trias (Politica) 3.0 (technologies to redefine the nation/state, including rewriting the model for it; ‘tier 4 smart x applications’ (smart technology applications and services designed to actually be helpful to citizens); spcial skills (non-digital physical competences that help people get along with each other)

What kind of impact do you expect them to have?
If they are not adopted by a great number of people, coming together in the transitions towards sustainable and smart societies, I’m conscious of the fact they may not have sufficient impact on time

What are the barriers that might stand in the way?
Current systems, dating from a time we could afford not to change too fast

What do you hope people to learn from your presentation?
When we do things together, re-using each others skills, competencies, smart solutions and energy, we will change faster!
